Statue of Unity

The Statue of Unity is built in dedication to Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who served as the first home minister of independent India. Sardar Patel is credited with uniting all 562 princely states in pre-independent India to build the Republic of India -- hence the name of the statue.

The date for the inauguration of the statue (October 31, 2018) also marks the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

The Statue of Unity will be open to the public from November 3.

Located on the Sadhu Bet island, near Rajpipla on the Narmada river, the Statue of Unity is located between the Satpura and the Vindhya mountain ranges. A 3.5 km highway will be used to connect the statue to Gujarat's Kevadia town.

  • The Statue of Unity is the tallest statue in the world. At 182 metres, it is 23 metres taller than China's Spring Temple Buddha statue and almost double the height of the Statue of Liberty (93 metres tall) in US.
  • The viewing gallery for the statue, at 153 metres, can accommodate 200 people at a time and offer an expansive view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
  • Officials claim that nearly 15,000 direct jobs will be generated for the tribal people every year from the project.
  • This statue features excellent architectural works and it’s surrounded by an exhibition hall, a viewing gallery and a lift inside. It’s one of the must visit places in Gujarat and you can explore the real wonders. The nearby rivers and dams make this place an exciting one and you would simply love the atmosphere.

Sardar Sarovar Dam

Sardar Sarovar Dam is second largest dam in India. Four Indian states, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, receive water and electricity supply from the dam. Dam is surrounded by natural beauty and cuddled in the foothills of mountainous terrain. When the Sardar Sarovar Dam overflows in all its magnanimity, it mesmerizing to visit in monsoon. Sardar Sarovar Dam is one of the world's largest concrete gravity dam which is 1.2 kms long and 163 mts hight from its deepest foundation level. Valley of Flowers / Bharat Van

Without flowers nature is incomplete – Valley of flowers completes nature and The Valley of Flowers / Bharat Van - is spread across 24 acres of land and is a haven for colourful flowering plants along the bank of river Narmada. Without Valley of Flowers Statue of Unity is incomplete .

The Valley of Flower began with 48,000 plants in 2016 and has now reached up to 22,00,000 variety of plants. Along with flowers one can enjoy the parks, several photo booths and selfie points have been made this will give them unforgettable memories of the visit. The spot resembles a rainbow of flowers setup on earth.

More than 300 types of flowers are grown in this garden. A right blend of ornamental flowers, trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers and creepers are planted along with various shades of foliage, which forms the green cover in this area. The merger of these species makes this small area enchanting, colorful and fascinating. The attractive site and an fascinating view of the Statue of Unity certainly captivate the visitors always. This vibrant landscape is also a site for a charismatic flower show every winters.

The Cactus Garden

Cactus is an unusually inspiring plant and this succulent has more personality to it. Cactus is one such unique plant that is known to hold some significance . The Cactus Garden is a unique botanical garden at the Statue of Unity site, created to exhibit a huge variety of Cacti and succulents, the true miracles of adaptation.

There are 6 lakh plants of 450 species spread across 25 acres of open land and inside the dome having an area of 836 square metres.

The Butterfly Garden

Along with above all one of the another important sightseeing is The Butterfly Garden along the banks of Narmada river, which makes it an attractive spot to appreciate the assortment of these flying jewels. This garden has more than 70 species of butterflies. In this garden one can explore to nature by watching the life stage of butterflies from laying eggs to cater piller to chrysalis to adult emerges and finally become an adult butterfly. This experience will explore them and will give practical knowledge to kids.

The garden is covering 10 acres of area with 150 species. Garden has many n many more types of flowers which butterflies feed on the juice of flowers, there are hundreds of flowering plants that will provide them with food.

Zarwani Waterfalls

Even if you visit this part of Gujarat for a day, you should plan a trip to the Zarwani Waterfalls. The waterfall is technically located inside the Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, another popular tourist destination near the Statue of Unity. However, you can explore just the waterfall and the region surrounding it if you have a time constraint.

Zarwani is a village located at the topmost point of the Satpura ranges. It’s a small village known for its spectacular scenic beauty. The village is, however, primarily known for the waterfall named after it, the Zarwani Waterfalls. People come to this part of the state for day trips and for enjoying activities like camping, hiking, and trekking. You will have the best experience if you visit the place just after the monsoon or when it’s not raining during the monsoon.

The Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

The Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the western slope of the Satpura range. If you are interested to get acquainted with the local flora and fauna of the region, do plan a trip to this sanctuary. The sanctuary got its name from a historic temple named Shoolpaneshwar, which was a shrine of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the Shoolpaneshwar Temple is now present underneath the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

This sanctuary started its journey as a project meant for protecting sloth bears. However, today, it is famous for housing several species of big cats. Other than that, you will also get to witness barking deer, pangolins, civets, porcupines, etc. during your trip to the sanctuary. You will also be enthralled by the innumerable species of birds and reptiles the place houses. The other factor that makes this wildlife sanctuary one-of-its kinds is the combination of plant types it has. Here, you will get to see more than 560 species of plants.

Garudeshwar Temple

If you are wondering whether there’s any prominent place of worship near the Statue of Unity, rest assured. Gujarat has always been known for its temples; the Garudeshwar Dutt Temple is just one of them. The Garudeshwar Temple is located along the northern bank of the river Narmada and is dedicated to Mahadev. The temple was constructed more than 2000 years back and thus stands as the testimony of a series of historic events.

Some say that Lord Shiva/Mahadev arrived on earth to destroy everything that’s evil disguised as an eagle. The Garudeshwar Dutt Temple was built based on this mythological concept and thus Shiva is worshiped here as an eagle. The temple is also famous for being the samadhi site of Shree Vasudevanand Swami Maharaj, the author of the book Duttapuran.

Nilkanth Dham Swaminarayan Temple

Nilkanth Dham is another famous temple located near the Statue of Unity. The temple is dedicated to Nilkanth or Lord Krishna. However, it was built primarily for propagating the message of Bhagwan Shri Swaminarayan or Sahajanand Swami, a widely worshipped Indian yogi.

You will not have any trouble exploring the temple even if you are an elderly individual or a person with a disability. The temple authority offers wheelchairs free of cost to disabled individuals. While you enjoy your visit to the temple, your kids can have some fun at the dedicated play area. There’s also a food court and exhibition zone where tourists can have some good time. Arogya Van (Herbal Garden) is developed near Statue of Unity, which is spread over an area of about 17 acres. Arogya Van exhibits a wide range of medicinal plants and health-related landscapes. The aim of this attraction at kevadia, is to raise awareness about the important role played by plants in the wellness of human beings. Emphasis is also laid on Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation for being an integral part of a person’s well-being.

There are five gardens inside Arogya Van – Garden of Colours, Aroma Garden, Yoga Garden, Alba Garden and Leutea Garden.

Indoor plants section has been created to spread awareness regarding the importance of interior landscape. Interior landscaping plays a vital role in providing a pleasant and tranquil environment in which one can walk and relax. It is a semi covered fabricated structure.
